Eugene Boudin, apparently crowned "master of the sky" by Corot, was known for his unique takes on the sea and the sky. While the composition of the piece is fairly standard, it is the colors that draw the viewer into the painting. The relatively dark clothes of the men, some women's dresses that complement the sky, and the sunset itself. The incredible palette and brush strokes allowed Boudin to render a scene that transcends the beach at sunset trope.
