Happy Halloween, everyone!

For this particular day, we want to bring some classical memento mori to you, which could be considered an ancient motivational meme. What you see today is a Roman mosaic from the 3rd century BCE, which was unearthed in 2016 in the ancient Greek-Roman city of Antiocheia, back in the days in the ancient Syria, now in Turkey. It belonged to the dining room of a house. As you can see, it presents a cheerful skeleton that is eating and drinking with a Greek text: “Be cheerful, live your life.” It could be a quotation from one of the famous people in that era.

Lovely, isn't it? It is good to remember that ancient Romans had a great sense of humor.
