Pierre Bonnard is one of my favorite artists. Unfortunately, his works are of these types, which should be looked at live, not via any screen. I hope that by sharing this charming painting on DailyArt today, however, we will encourage you to take a closer look at his paintings when you encounter them in a museum.

In this painting, two dogs stand close together on a petal-pink street, set against the backdrop of two oyster-white buildings. The scene is rendered in a loose, thick style with visible brushstrokes, blurring finer details. The foreground dog is peach-colored, and the other is white with dark brown patches, positioned facing one another. The perspective looks slightly downward onto the street, which occupies nearly half of the composition. A stone-gray wheelbarrow is positioned to the left of the dogs, near a light gray horizontal stripe that might indicate a sidewalk. The visible parts of the buildings feature tall slate-blue windows, mostly shuttered, and a decorative band in gray and brown stretches across their foundations. The building to the right features a narrow rust-red door, while the one on the left has two blue doors matching the shutters. Above the doors, three small navy-blue squares possibly represent house numbers.
